This picture was taken at the 7th Conference of the International Linear Algebra Society (ILAS). The conference was held at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, June 3 - 6, 1998, in honor of Professor Hans Schneider for his 70th birthday. It was therefore denominated the "Hans Schneider Linear Algebra" Conference. In the background there is a big statue of Abraham Lincoln, situated on the top of Bascom Hill at the University grounds, received as a gift many years ago.
