This picture was taken during the Workshop on "The Riccati Equation in Control, Systems and Signals" held at Villa Gallia, Como, Italy, June 26-29 1989, in honor of Count Jacopo Francesco Riccati (1676, 1747). Villa Gallia is a 18th Century villa located on the shore of Lake Como in Como, Italy. Here one can see a group of participants at a coffee break in the foyer of the villa. The workshop lectures were at the basis of the book "The Riccati Equation, published by Springer-Verlag, Communications and Control Engineering Series, in 1991 (with S. Bittanti , A. J. Laub, J. C. Willems as editors)

This Center was responsible of the local organization of the Workshop, which was held at Villa Gallia (not far from Villa Olmo).

This picture was taken at the banquet of the Workshop on "The Riccati Equation in Control, Signals and Systems". The banquet took place in Torno, a small and nice spot on the other side of Lake Como, which was reached by a short ferry-boat transfer from Villa Olmo pier.
